Introduction

Castara Retreats is superbly located overlooking the beautiful bay of Castara on Tobago, with stunning views of the Caribbean and mountains. We are set right above the beach, backed by the lush deep green of the oldest protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere. The property is framed by mango trees and bamboo and offers Tobago accommodation where you can "live in the landscape”.

The accommodation at Castara Retreats consists of three apartments plus a Fisherman’s Lodge. These can be rented for holidays separately or can be combined for larger groups. The apartments and lodge are all designed to create open, spacious living areas that allow uninhibited views, cool sea breezes and the natural sights and sounds that surround the property. The apartments’ timber structure is in classic Haiku style and designed to “allow man and nature to live in mutual respect”. The newly-renovated Fisherman's Lodge is just 30 ft away and offers the same high standards, while retaining its unique Caribbean character.

The grounds consist of an acre of gardens with sun terraces, barbecues and shady spots where you can relax under the mango trees and listen to the mot-mots calling. Purpose-designed decking areas are perfect for birders and for watching the manta rays in the bay below or, of course, the spectacular Caribbean sunsets.

The basic principle at Castara Retreats is looking after yourselves in well-resourced, self-catering accommodation, with good local back up and support free from the usual constraints and protocols of hotels.

We are now renting the two new all wood haiku lodges, Birdsong and Coasthanger, that each offer spacious and high standard accommodation, with wonderful views looking North West onto the bay of Castara and also down the coastline to the West.

These new detached lodges enable us to accommodate more visitors wishing to retreat to, and enjoy, a holiday in our recently established resort that is quietly growing its eco credentials.
